As far as the application itself is concerned, there is no problem in integrating MirrorChyan. However, MirrorChyan is primarily designed to address slow GitHub access speeds for users in mainland China; where are your main users located, and do you truly need MirrorChyan?

If you decide to proceed with the integration, we will submit a Pull Request containing a workflow; this workflow automatically triggers upon each new release and uploads the artifact (NowiVault.apk) to our server. Then we tell you about the rid (resource id), which requires you to write your own code to adapt it, following the API documentation in this repository.

The approach I’m currently considering is as follows:

On the “About” page, there will be a “Check for Updates” button. When the user clicks it, the app itself will not access the network and will not use an embedded WebView. Instead, it will launch the user’s system default browser via an Android Intent.

The app will pass its current version as a parameter at the end of the URL, for example:

"https://update.example.com/?localversion=1.4.2"

Here, "1.4.2" is the app’s current version.

The update page will be hosted on Cloudflare as a static website. Its JavaScript will fetch the latest "manifest.json" and perform the version comparison locally in the browser.

If an update is available, the page will display the changelog as well as available release channels such as Stable and Beta. The user can then select the desired version/channel, and the APK will be downloaded directly through the system default browser. During installation, Android will verify that the APK belongs to the existing app and can therefore be installed as an update.

That’s a pretty good option. I could implement the intent integration, use a MaterialAlertDialog to explain it, and—since I store the app version name in a constant—append it to the URL to optimize the process.
