NVIDIA Open GPU Kernel Modules Version
nvidia-driver-610-open 610.57.04-0ubuntu0.24.04.3 via Linux Mint driver manager
Please confirm this issue does not happen with the proprietary driver (of the same version). This issue tracker is only for bugs specific to the open kernel driver.
Operating System and Version
Linux Mint 22.3
Kernel Release
7.0.0-38 (Ubuntu HWE)
Please confirm you are running a stable release kernel (e.g. not a -rc). We do not accept bug reports for unreleased kernels.
Hardware: GPU
nVidia RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell, Workstation Edition
Describe the bug
Summary
What I assume is happening: After updating from kernel 7.0.0-34-generic to 7.0.0-38-generic (Ubuntu 24.04 HWE, on Linux Mint), the system hangs at boot before the display manager starts. The nvidia module oopses in nv_audio_dynamic_power when gpu-manager queries the GPU. Rebooting into 7.0.0-34 with the same driver works normally.
System
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX Pro 6000 (Blackwell)
- Driver: 610.57.04, open kernel, installed via Driver Manager in Mint
- Kernel: 7.0.0-38-generic (38 24.04.4-Ubuntu) — crashes; 7.0.0-34-generic — works
- Distro: Mint 22.3
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D
- Motherboard: ASUS ProArt X870E-CREATOR WIFI
- Secure Boot: disabled
- Other: A second NVIDIA GPU (GeForce RTX 5070) is bound to vfio-pci for VM passthrough and is not managed by the nvidia driver. The crash may be related to the driver encountering this GPU (or its HDMI audio function) while iterating devices.
Steps to reproduce
- Install driver 610.57.04 (open) via Driver Manager
- Boot kernel 7.0.0-38-generic
- Boot hangs after systemd services start; gpu-manager.service fails
