SwiftTemp

A menu-bar readout for an Apple Silicon Mac: Apple's thermal state, CPU, memory, and an experimental chip temperature when the sensor will give one.

Run it

1. Download SwiftTemp.dmg
2. Drag SwiftTemp.app into Applications
3. First launch: right-click the app and choose Open

macOS 15 or later on Apple Silicon. It lives in the menu bar. There is no Dock icon unless you turn one on in Settings (⌘,).

Click the menu-bar item. CPU, GPU, and memory rows open a process list. Quit asks first.

Temperature

Apple's supported signal is the thermal state: Nominal, Fair, Serious, or Critical. A number of degrees is separate. macOS does not publish a public temperature API, so that reading comes from a private sensor and can say Unavailable. It is not guessed from another sensor, and it is not an overheating diagnosis.

Notifications and launch-at-login need the real app in Applications, not a swift run binary.

For users:

• Download the macOS .dmg or .app release. Xcode/Swift do not need to be installed.

For developers:

• Toolchain: Swift 6 on Apple Silicon. macOS 15 or later.
• Test: swift test
• Run: swift run
• Package: ./scripts/build-mac.sh
