Swifter

Point it at your photos and videos. Swifter finds exact copies, shows which one it would keep, and does not touch a file until you say so.

Run it

1. Download Swifter.dmg
2. Drag Swifter.app into Applications
3. First launch: right-click the app and choose Open

macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon. Nothing else to install.

Add a folder and scan. Dry mode is the default and only reports duplicates. Real mode moves the extras into a quarantine folder you can undo.

What it does

• Match files byte for byte, not by a fuzzy guess
• Skip unique sizes, then hash the rest with SHA-256
• Remember hashes so the next scan is faster
• Choose the keeper: shortest path, longest path, oldest, or newest
• Restore the last batch from the File menu (⌥⌘R)
