We already support remote debugging of Windows from Windows. #14. It uses DbgEng which only supports Windows. To do remote debugging from macOS/Linux, we will either make use of LLDB remote, or write our own debugserver.

currently most of my hosts run Linux and I debug things inside Windows VMs often so it would be really nice if i could debug from Linux instead so I don't have to give the VMs as much RAM to run Binary Ninja

We will create our own debug server which speaks RPC with the debug adapter. The server will first work on Windows but we may end up extending it to other systems as well

Over the long run we might wish to make the debug server be able to drive any debug adapters on that OS, not just the OS native one. For example, it is reasonable to expect the Windows debug server could also interact with the DbgEng TTD, so one can replay a TTD trace even on macOS/Linux. But ofc that would make things more complicated, so we can start with just Windows native debugging which is the most requested feature
