Bootpack Digital was founded in 2019 by Michael Bonner, growing out of a freelance development practice he'd been running since 2006. Before that: five years leading a development team, plus agency and in-house work — 18+ years of shipping real software, total.
The name comes from Utah skiing. A boot pack is the trail someone else stomped up a steep slope so the people behind them can make the climb. That's the idea here — we've already made a lot of the hard climbs, so you don't have to.
We're deliberately small. When you hire us, you work directly with the people writing the code. No account managers, no handoffs, no ramp-up period before anything useful happens.

We think great software gets built in the open. Michael maintains a pile of public tools and experiments — a redirects wizard for catching 404s before launch, uptime and SSL checkers, and plenty more.

Every quarter, we build a free website for one mission-driven organization in the greater Salt Lake City area — nonprofits, community and mutual aid groups, schools, faith communities, and LGBTQIA+ support organizations.
You get a brand-matched, mobile-friendly site of up to five pages, full ownership of the codebase, and no ongoing fees. Priority goes to groups that genuinely can't afford professional web development and where a site would make a real difference.
