QuickProtect 1.3.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 13 Aug 15:19

Highlights

  • First Linux release 🐧 — QuickProtect now ships for Linux as a self-contained x64 tarball (an AUR package, quickprotect-bin, is on the way). Feature parity with the Windows build: live camera grid, focus view with fullscreen, PTZ, digital zoom, audio, snapshots, pinned windows, layout profiles, seven languages — plus a global hotkey via the XDG Desktop Portal (Wayland and X11).
  • Seamless quality switches (all platforms) — focusing a camera or going fullscreen now switches stream quality without freezing the video for a moment.
  • Keyboard hints in the focus view (Windows & Linux) — the focus view now shows its keyboard shortcuts as keycap chips, matching the Mac app.

@cb2206 cb2206 released this 10 Aug 04:35

QuickProtect 1.3 is the first release for Windows — a full reimplementation of the app for Windows, matching the Mac app feature for feature: live camera grid, focus view with fullscreen, PTZ control, digital zoom, audio, snapshots, pinned always-on-top windows, layout profiles, global hotkey, and seven languages.

For an auto-updating, store-signed install that supports development, get QuickProtect from the stores:

What's new in 1.3

Windows

  • First Windows release (see above).

macOS

  • Streams now stay connected for a short grace period after closing the panel (configurable, default 10 s), so a quick reopen shows video instantly — including the package-lens picture-in-picture. While hidden, decoding pauses to save CPU.
  • Doorbell package snapshot bridges the wait for the package stream's first keyframe.
  • A second click on the menu-bar icon now closes the panel.
  • Fixed a crash in the stream overview when several camera streams changed at once.
  • Fixed a rare crash when reopening the panel (macOS AutoFill).
  • PTZ badges no longer disappear across throttled camera-list refreshes; smarter request throttling toward the console overall.
  • Update checks no longer announce a release until its build for your OS is actually available.

About these downloads

The GitHub builds are not code-signed. For a signed, auto-updating install, use the store version for your OS.

  • macOS (QuickProtect-1.3.dmg): on first open, macOS will say the app "cannot be checked for malicious software" — see Installing an Unsigned App.
  • Windows (QuickProtect-Setup-1.3-win-x64.exe): SmartScreen will warn about an unrecognized app — choose "More info" → "Run anyway".

@cb2206 cb2206 released this 05 Jun 01:25

What's New

Aurora — a full UI overhaul

QuickProtect has been rebuilt around Aurora, a calm, Apple-native visual
language with translucent materials, hairline dividers, and a system-blue accent.

  • New app icon & menu-bar mark — an aperture-style glyph; the status-bar
    icon is a true template that tints for light/dark menu bars
  • Redesigned popover — brand header, live status pill, and a tighter
    packed camera grid (2px gutters)
  • Focus mode — floating top bar, on-screen PTZ d-pad, and keyboard hints
  • True-fullscreen HUD — auto-hiding live/clock and key-hint pills
  • First-run onboarding — guided connection setup on first launch
  • Reorganized Settings — sidebar with General, Connection, PTZ, Cameras,
    Shortcuts, Updates, and About
  • Restyled context menu and error/empty/stream-unavailable states

Fixes

  • Corrected inverted horizontal pan when zoomed into a stream
  • Smoother grid ↔ focus ↔ fullscreen stream transitions

Requirements

  • macOS 13.0+ (Apple Silicon)
  • UniFi Protect controller with Integration API enabled
  • (Optional, for PTZ) Local admin account on the controller

v0.5

Choose a tag to compare

@cb2206 cb2206 released this 07 Apr 03:11

What's New

PTZ Camera Control

  • Pan and tilt PTZ cameras (e.g. G6 PTZ) with arrow keys while viewing a focused feed
  • Hold arrow keys to move continuously, release to stop instantly
  • PTZ-capable cameras show a directional icon on their name badge
  • Requires a local admin account (configure in Settings → PTZ Control)

UX Improvements

  • Remembers focused camera — reopen the popover and it picks up where you left off instead of resetting to the grid
  • Pastable text fields — Cmd+V now works in all settings fields (IP, API key, credentials)
  • Visibility toggles — show/hide API key and password fields with an eye button
  • Reorganized settings — sections reordered: General (with global shortcut), Connection, PTZ Control, Updates
  • Cleaner labels — removed placeholder text, improved field names

Bug Fixes & Internals

  • Fixed RTSP stream DELETE to include required ?qualities=medium parameter
  • Fixed stream reload on focus/fullscreen transitions
  • Separated Integration API and Classic API into isolated URL sessions to prevent cookie pollution
  • Added debug logging to RTSPClient for easier troubleshooting
  • Added 9 new Camera model unit tests covering PTZ feature flags and encoding

Requirements

  • macOS 13.0+ (Apple Silicon)
  • UniFi Protect controller with Integration API enabled
  • (Optional, for PTZ) Local admin account on the controller
