The Tkinter-based overlay is getting laggy and heavy. The main bottlenecks:
- Single-threaded loop — subprocess calls (
docker inspect per container, journalctl) block the UI
- Full /proc PID scan on every tick to build the process-group map
- Tkinter update costs on every 1s refresh
Proposal: rewrite as a C++ app using Dear ImGui + GLFW, with a collector thread publishing a snapshot to the UI thread. Read docker via its unix socket instead of the CLI, and use libsystemd-journal instead of spawning journalctl. Keep the GNOME extension bridge and systemd autostart unchanged.
