Assuming you installed dependencies using Yarn, it looks like typescript@2.7.1 was installed. Installing with NPM5 would have installed typescript@2.6.2 due to the package-lock.json.

That error is new with TypeScript 2.7 (since we have "strict": true in our tsconfig).

Run the following, to get the proper dependency:
yarn add typescript@2.6.2 --dev
