Dhyego Calota

Hello world,

I'm a Tech Lead Engineer with 14+ years building software, 8 of them for US companies. My passion started early, when I was 11. I was into games, but what really got me was running my own MuOnline server and selling in-game items through websites I built. I ended up reading far more tutorials than actually playing. All of that out of a small town in Mato Grosso, Brazil. I never stopped wanting to know what happens underneath, and that same curiosity still drives how I work.

Today I lead engineering at Thrifty Traveler, where I design and ship products used by hundreds of thousands of people. A large part of that work is building AI agents and LLM-powered systems for production. On the product side my stack is TypeScript, React, Node.js and NestJS. On the infrastructure side, Python, AWS, Docker and CI/CD.

Before going global, I spent years in Brazilian companies doing solid but predictable work. In late 2018 I decided to build for the international market instead, and I haven't looked back. Along the way I helped build a platform from the ground up that became a critical component of the voluntary carbon market, used by some of the world's largest corporations and banks.

I believe engineers should build the room they want to be in. I co-founded DevMT, a developer community in my hometown, Cuiabá, that grew to nearly 2,000 members. I've spoken at 30+ events across Brazil to over 1,000 developers, and helped organize 20+ more, including one that brought 500+ developers into a single room, backed by sponsors including Google.

What the leaders I've worked with consistently tell me sets me apart is that I see the whole picture. I don't take a task just to close it. I want to understand why it exists, and I speak up when there's a better way for the business. That accountability is what turned me from an engineer into a lead.

Core skills: Tech Leadership, AI Agents, LLMs, Full-Stack TypeScript, React, Node.js, NestJS, Python, Ruby on Rails, AWS, Docker, CI/CD, TDD, System Design, Incident Response.
