Search

[runam0K]

Hi John,

can you estimate how long the development of this plugin will take?
Is there currently another way to run a search on all pads?

[JohnMcLear]

I think it does do a search across all pads already.

I can just imagine it's realllllyyyy inefficient, it's prolly fine up to say 1000 pads but after that it's gonna get painfully slow..

The proper way to develop it would be to do some full text indexing which our KVS/ueber approach doesn't support so I guess it depends on the scope of what development you want..

Also depends on if you want autocomplete and or boolean operators etc. Search can be pretty full on if you get into it.

To get something relatively solid but lacking features would probably be a day or so of my time at minimum

Yes, it already does a search, but very very slowly and the results are not complete.

It would be great, to get a good working and stabile search with the basic features.

I think making it performant is beyond the scope of a day if there are more than say 1k documents. You would need full text indexing and our database abstraction would shit bricks at that. Everything is possible but there would be costs associated so it depends how committed you are.

@runam0K are you still after this?

[JohnMcLear]

https://github.com/fergiemcdowall/search-index now exists

Many thanks for the tip. I'll try it out.

Unassigned myself as I'm not actively working on this.
