The UI for selecting the ROM file and controls and other things is way too big! Cut its size down to 70% of that at most.

Could you provide your OS, display resolution, display scaling/DPI setting, and a screenshot of the launcher?

It would also help to know which part of the UI is preventing you from proceeding, for example whether controls are off-screen or inaccessible, rather than just appearing too large.

A fixed 70% reduction may not be the right solution if this is caused by DPI/scaling or a specific display resolution.

Windows 10, 1366x768, didn't capture the launcher because there's not really anything to capture (can't move, the buttons are completely off screen) and had it removed.

I'd advise testing with resolutions of 720p as a minimum, can use an image file of 1280x720 at 100% zoom to refer when measuring the window size. There's elements you can resize dynamically, like for example the boxart front

For sure. Appreciate the feedback and will try to make an effort to incorporate it back into the shared ecosystem. May take me a bit as there's a lot of moving parts being juggled, but I welcome it nonetheless.

Can you confirm you're able to get into game now with the current iteration?

Thanks again for the report and follow-up testing. Since the current build now lets you get into game, I’m going to close this issue out.

I filed the remaining launcher/layout work as a follow-up in mstan/recomp-ui: mstan/recomp-ui#37. That issue tracks improving small-resolution behavior, especially 720p-class displays, and dynamically sizing launcher content where possible.
