I was the first engineer at a small agritech company and for most of five years the only one. Built the algorithm. Ended up owning the app and the backend too. The product takes video from a phone, shot outdoors by someone who is not an expert, one take, and turns it into a number a customer pays for.
Most of that is 3D reconstruction and detection on data that does not cooperate. Handheld camera, no depth sensor, targets a few pixels wide and half hidden. A lot of the job was working out when the answer was wrong.
