Value for button cannot be blank

I have found that if I leave a value as blank for a button for a field that is set as required the entry won't save.

In my instance I have a button type field that has the options of Standard (default), Outline or Link. It would be nice if the default type could have a blank value so if I ever need change the base class from btn to button it can be done in the template.

Off the top of my head I'm not quite sure why that is actually happening - does a blank value work if the field is not required?

Yes the entry saves if the field isn't required and is supplied with a blank value.

Ok I've worked this one out - basically its to do with Crafts validation of a required field. A required field cannot submit an empty value, which does make sense but I can see why it doesn't necessarily in your case.

I ran a simple test by setting up a normal dropdown field, gave it a blank option and set it to required. It behaved exactly the same way which is no surprise since the buttons field type inherits from the same BaseOptionsFieldType class.

So, in summary - I don't think I'm going to do anything special to cope with this but it is something I think is probably worth raising with P&T. I'll email them at some point and see what they think about it all.
