Implements #136: records the durable multi-repository ownership and licensing model before compiler/core extraction and cutover proceed.

What the ADR records (ADR-0009, accepted)

  • Repository ownership: workshop-rs (canonical Workshop semantics/catalog/WIR), language-provider-protocol (neutral LPP contract), opy-rs (first-party OPY), del-rs (independent DEL/OSTW-compatible), wright (tooling, orchestration, generic edit-transaction safety, agent/embedding APIs, language services, integration adapters).
  • LPP is the stable process boundary (documented process/data contract), not a Rust trait/dylib/FFI ABI.
  • Provider-specific provenance/licensing strategy replaces one repository-wide frontend assumption; provider implementation/provenance policy belongs to each owning repository.
  • Dependency direction: providers/core must not depend back on Wright tooling internals.
  • Amends ADR-0008 decision 2 (frontend ownership) only; tooling-first, semantic compatibility, Workshop-centered interoperability, and source-oriented mutation remain normative.

Files changed

  • docs/adr/0009-language-ownership-licensing-boundaries.md (new ADR)
  • docs/adr/0008-tooling-first-semantic-platform.md (status line marks amendment, per ADR-0002 convention)
  • docs/architecture.md (migration state vs target ownership, LPP process boundary, dependency rule)
  • docs/licensing.md (migration state vs target licensing, provider-specific provenance strategy)
  • docs/adr/README.md (index)
  • docs/README.md (asset ledger: ADR 0000-0009, new ADR row)

Acceptance criteria mapping

  • Accepted ADR defines ownership/process boundaries: ADR-0009 decisions 1-3.
  • ADR-0008 no longer implies permanent ownership: ADR-0009 decision 4 + ADR-0008 header marks the amendment.
  • Licensing docs distinguish provider-specific provenance/compatibility work from shared core/protocol goals, no legal safe harbor: ADR-0009 decisions 5-6 + docs/licensing.md "Provider-specific provenance and licensing".
  • Current state vs target architecture documented without conflation: docs/architecture.md "Current implementation state" + cutover timeline ([v0.2] Establish the language-provider boundary and canonical Workshop core #135); docs/licensing.md migration-state paragraph.
  • Tooling-first and semantic-compatibility contracts remain normative: ADR-0009 decision 4 list + Compatibility impact section.

Validation

  • git diff --check — clean
  • git status — only the 6 intended docs files changed; no code touched (no cargo tests applicable)

Closes #136 when merged.

… v0.2

Add ADR-0009 amending ADR-0008's frontend-ownership wording for the multi-repository v0.2 architecture: repository ownership (workshop-rs, language-provider-protocol, opy-rs, del-rs, wright), LPP as the stable process boundary, provider-specific provenance and licensing, unlicensed upstream internals excluded as an implementation source, and dependency direction away from Wright tooling internals. Tooling-first and semantic-compatibility contracts remain normative.

Rebaseline docs/architecture.md and docs/licensing.md to distinguish the current migration state from target ownership, and update the ADR index. Each acceptance criterion of #136 is addressed by the new ADR or the living-doc updates.

Fixes #136
